When the training is done correctly — yes, absolutely. The foundation of everything we build is obedience and social stability. A properly developed protection dog from Stateline Canine is a calm, composed family companion the vast majority of the time, and a reliable protection asset only when genuinely needed and commanded. We do not produce unpredictable dogs.
Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, and Dobermans are among the breeds most commonly associated with protection work, but breed alone doesn't determine suitability. Drive, nerve strength, and natural social stability matter significantly more than the name on the pedigree. We evaluate every candidate individually and give you a direct, honest read on their aptitude.
It depends entirely on the individual dog. Not every dog has the temperament, drive, or nerve strength required for legitimate protection work, and it would be irresponsible to push a dog into that training without the right foundation. We'll assess your dog thoroughly and tell you truthfully whether protection training is appropriate for them — and what's realistic if it is.
It's fundamentally different. Attack training and aggression training produce reactive, indiscriminate dogs that bite under stress. Personal protection training produces a controlled, obedient dog that engages only on command, stops on command, and lives as a socially appropriate companion in every other context. The distinction matters — both legally and for your family's safety.
