While Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, and Labrador Retrievers are commonly associated with SAR work, breed alone doesn't determine suitability. Drive, temperament, scenting ability, and environmental confidence matter far more. We assess every dog individually and give you an honest evaluation of their SAR potential before any program begins.
Some foundational obedience is helpful, but it's not a strict requirement — especially for our longer programs where we build the foundation ourselves. What matters most is that your dog has the drive and temperament for working dog tasks. We'll assess that clearly in your initial consultation.
Both. Our immersive boarding programs allow our trainers to do the intensive daily development work, but handler education is built into every program. The goal is always a capable, confident team — not just a trained dog handed back to an unprepared handler.
Readiness for actual SAR deployment depends on the dog, the program, the team's certification requirements, and ongoing maintenance training after graduation. We'll give you a realistic, honest picture of the timeline during your consultation — and our lifetime support means we're with you the entire way to certification and beyond.
