Traditional working breeds like Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, and Dutch Shepherds are common in the sport world, but they are not the only option. Any dog demonstrating the appropriate drives, physical soundness, and temperament stability can be evaluated for sport participation. We determine suitability honestly during your initial assessment.
Not at all. A properly developed sport dog is among the most controlled and obedient animals you will ever encounter. Protection sport training provides a structured, rule-governed outlet for your dog's natural genetic drives, complete with a reliable out-command and strict engagement rules. In many cases, it actually reduces problem behaviors rooted in under-stimulation.
We can begin building foundational drive, engagement, and obedience through structured play as early as 8 weeks of age. That said, we intentionally delay high-impact activities like heavy jumping and intensive bite work until your dog's growth plates are fully closed, because protecting their long-term physical health is just as important as their athletic development.
None whatsoever. We welcome first-time handlers with open arms. Our Tarheel-certified team will walk you through every aspect of leash mechanics, marker timing, and competition etiquette from your very first session. You just need to show up ready to learn. We will handle the rest.
